IPINATITIGIL ng isang mambabatas sa Kamara sa Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) ang pagpapasuot ng face shield sa mga tao dahil wala umanong matibay na pag-aaral na nakatutulong ito para hindi mahawa sa COVID-19.

Bukod dito, sinabi ni ACT-CIS party-list Rep. Jocelyn Tulfo na dagdag gastos lang ito sa publiko at nakasisira pa sa kalikasan dahil sa plastic material na ginagamit na itinatapon lang kung saan-saan.

“It makes no sense requiring people to wear face shields when there is no hard scientific evidence backing up its effectiveness in preventing the spread of the virus,” ani Tulfo.

Ayon sa mambabatas, sapat na ang face mask at dalawang metrong distansya para maproteksyunan ang mga tao sa COVID-19 kaya hindi na umano dapat obligahin ang mga ito na magsuot ng face shield.

Ginawa ni Tulfo ang pahayag matapos sabihin ni medical anthropologist Dr. Gideon Lasco na: “What do all countries that have controlled COVID have in common? They never required face shields. It’s time to end the Philippines’ baseless, inconvenient, and environmentally harmful face shield mandate, especially in outdoor spaces where there’s zero evidence of its benefit”.

“Tama siya (Lasco). The United States, New Zealand, our Southeast Asian neighbors that are successful in containing the spread of COVID-19, never did mandate their citizens to wear face shields. Face masks lang sapat na,” anang mambabatas.

Sa halip aniya ay paigtingin ang mass testing at contact tracing upang makontrol ang pagkalat ng COVID-19.

Kailangan din aniyang bilisan ang pagbabakuna para magkaroon ng proteksyon ang mga tao imbes na pagastusin sa face shield.

“Filipinos only wear face shields for compliance para hindi sitahin ng guwardiya, tanod, o pulis. We are doing more harm than good by insisting on the mandatory face shield. Dagdag gastos lang yan sa taumbayan and those flimsy plastic face shields would just wound up in our garbage sites and seas,” ayon pa sa mambabatas.
